How do I get a YouTube transcript?

Is there a free transcript tool without sign-up?
Yes. Single-video transcripts are completely free and require no account. Bulk transcripts for channels or playlists use a one-time pay-per-use model starting at $2.99.
Can I download transcripts from an entire YouTube channel?
Yes. Enter a channel handle (e.g. @veritasium) on the Channel page, preview the video list, and purchase a credit pack. All transcripts arrive as a ZIP to your email.
Do credits expire?
No. Credits never expire and there is no auto-renewal. You pay once and use them whenever you need — 1 credit per video via the website, 2 credits via API/MCP.
What formats are available?
Transcripts are available as plain text and with timestamps. Bulk downloads are delivered as a ZIP archive of plain-text files.
What is MCP and why does it matter?
MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude use external tools directly in a conversation. With MCP support, your AI agent can fetch a YouTube transcript by itself — no copy-pasting URLs into a browser.
Does this work with ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or other AI tools?
Our MCP server works with any MCP-compatible client, including Claude (Desktop & Code) and Cursor out of the box. The consumer ChatGPT app doesn't support custom MCP servers yet, but it works from the OpenAI Agents SDK / Responses API for developers. See the setup guide for step-by-step instructions.
Which languages are supported?
We fetch whatever subtitles or captions YouTube provides for a video — manually created or auto-generated, in any language YouTube offers (including auto-translated tracks where available). If a video has no captions at all, we can't produce a transcript for it.
Is there a limit on how many videos I can bulk-transcribe from a channel or playlist?
No technical limit — you can queue an entire channel or playlist, no matter how large. Your credit balance is the only constraint: each video consumes 1 credit (web) or 2 credits (API/MCP).
Do you store the video content or just the transcript?
We only fetch the transcript, send it to you, and then delete everything — we never store or download the video itself.
Can I get a refund if a transcript fails?
Yes. If a video fails to transcribe (e.g. no captions available, deleted/private video), the credit is automatically refunded to your balance — you're never charged for a failed transcript.
Is there a rate limit on the API/MCP?
No — there's no rate limit on the API or MCP access.
